Man Down

Today was my first attempt at getting some photos of these guys that congegate at the subway station across the street from me. They also hang out down the street where there is a big shopping street. Any way, today when one of them approached me for money I asked him it i could photograph him and very politely he said no. Usually I am the type of photographer to shoot first ask questions later or even ask no questions. Well I will continue my quest to get up close photos of these sought of homeless, gothic, punks. I think they are the old punks that used to be everywhere in europe and the U.S. back in the 80's. As a poor substitution I give you this photo of a man that looked like he was in another world.

Atlantic Avenue
You know Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn is a crossroads. Just about every train there is in New York comes throught there. The Long Island Railroad also makes a stop there. The trains that some how do not stop there can be found with in a couple of blocks from there. Kind of weird to be writing this from Vienna, but maybe tomorrow I will photograph the subway stop across the street from me. Its name is Westbahnhof. There are two trains that meet there, the U6 and the U3. Upstairs from there are the Railroads that go to the outter regions of Vienna and eventually to other cities. Out side of Westbahnhof are also Buses and Trams. So I guess in a way this is a crossroad as well.

Been Busy Working on the Vienna Apt.
I've been painting, moving furniture, cleaning, and reorganizing our home. Monika and me have been really putting the place together. I will be keeping up with my weblog better after this next couple of weeks. Its really hard to do like my friend Martin. He post every single day for over three months now. I will attempt to post every day begining September. Right now I'm to scattered. Not to mention I dont have a working copy of the photo editor I was using so on days that i would at least post a photo, I haven't even been doing that. Not much time for computer time when I have more pressing matters all around me. Things have been good, I'm really happy with the progress that we are making. The next step for me as far as projects is building a bar for our livingroom. It will actuall be called the Piano Room.

Taking out the trash
So today Monika and I went to the garbage place. One of the things I like and noticed about Vienna is that they are serious about their garbage. Like many things in Vienna its not so much that the people are serious about it but it is just accepted and expected. To quote a good friend of mine " That's just the way it is. " That sums up the way Vienna handles their garbage situation. Monika told me a story that at some point the city had to tell its people that they were doing too good a job of separating their garbage. The garbage wasn't burning. So now I think certain plastics aren't recycled anymore so that the garbage can burn. Any how, I am impressed in the cleaness of Vienna and the way that things are recycled. Today we went to this garbage place and there was a place for wood garbage, electronic garbage, metal garbarge, cardboard garbage, chemical garbage, and its all supervised by these garbage guys. The most impressive part of all of this isn't that this place exist but that the people follow the rules and go there to bring their different kinds of garbage. I guess they have no choice really because you just don't throw away things. There is a place for everything. I like that.

Just a scratch

Sorry for another self portrait, but I just want to show everyone that although i've been busy working at home with monika, I have been resting and getting better. My body soreness is all gone. Today I went to see the doctor and he said its healing very nicely. So maybe after this weekend Monika and I will be riding again!! Tomorrow I think the rain stops and I'll be out with my camera to take some real photos of Vienna.

OurLivingroom2

Today was back to work time. After my accident Saturday night I spent Sunday resting around the house. So today with the help of the amazing Alex and Ramona we layed down a new floor in what is to become our new livingroom. Its the old sleeping room of Monika's old room mate/friend, Erik. Anyway, we worked hard and long but it all got done. Alex is a wizard with his talble saw and his jig saw and Ramona is an expert at setting the pieces down. Not to mention at break time Romona cooked us some really good spinach and cheese palachinken. mmmmmm. Thanks again!!

The Face of Humility

So yesterday Monika and I stayed home during the day organizing the apartment. We finished unpacking and I got my closet and draws in order. Its great this past week we've just working on getting me situated and set up. I am really thankful for Alex, Monika's younger brother; he got me my computer that I've been posting and skyping with. So then... after working at home all day we went to Robert, Monika's older brother, and his girlfriend Sabine's house warming party. There were lots of friends, food and drinks as well. We had a great time. Robert and Sabine are the hosts with the most. They really throw a great party. So on the way home, me and Monika were biking; I passed out or blacked out and fell on my bike. There is how I got to look like I do in this photo. I'm ok and not really hurt. just a scratch really. I had to get a stitch just under my eye and I have a couple of bruises. Any how the reason I decided to post this is because many times we as people can be too cocky and careless. I take this as a big lesson to be learned. I am so lucky that I didn't lose an eye or even worse. I am a humble person usually and very careful. So today I feel a bit mortal and human. Even though I know in life these things happen I will be checking my behavior better in the future so that these sought of things are avoided. I want to say thanks to Monika's brother,Sabine,Franz, and Suzette who came to the hospital with Monika. In addition I am sorry for scaring Monika. Anyone reading this make sure to not tell my grand mother. So I also try to find the comic sides to things so in parting, it only took me 4 days to almost get killed here.

My Last Sunrise in The Bronx

I shot this at 5:40am on August 5th. I was restless with anticipation of my trip and was finding it hard to sleep more than 5 hours. This is the view i have from my kitchen window in Co-op City. Its a look of an inlet off of the Long Island Sound and Pelham Bay Park area. In the far distance north is New Rochelle.

About my trip
Life is amazing and you never know where it will take you. You have to be open to see it and live it to the most. I say this because the reason I have arrived in Vienna is because I met and fell in love with an amazing woman, Monika. We both fell in love right from that first night and after 6 months together in New York Monika had to come back to Vienna. Well after just a few months of us doing the long distance relationship a plan began to form in my mind and before you know it things started falling into place. We got engaged on our 1st anniversary February 20th, 2005 and now I am here in Vienna. I have visited Vienna or as it should be called Wien 3 times before this trip and I look forward to developing the relationships I have started as well as experiencing life on an everyday basis. I will be taking German courses, working on my photography, getting to know Vienna better as well as the people I've met before and of course spending time with Monika and further developing our relationship. We arrived yesterday from New York where we had spent the last month packing up our New York apartment as well as the things we wanted to bring here. We were exhausted to say the least but Monika's family are great and her dad and mom and her brother and his wife were all there at the airport to give us a ride home with all our bags, we went to lunch in a nice garden restaurant, then we came home to get started with unpacking and rearranging
