Victoria and Orchard Beach

This past weekend Me Victoria, and Martin went for a walk at Orchard Beach.
It's a manmade beach in the northeastern end of the Bronx, it's on the Long Island Sound across from Long Island. I usually go there the most during the off season because come summertime its packed with many people, barbequeing, sunbathing, swimming, or on the boardwalk people watching, salsa dancing, basketball playing, volleyball playing or watching the live Latin Bands. I will ride bike through there from time to time during a summer but to go and spend a day there would be to wild and hectic. I spent many summers there doing all the things there is to do. I used to be like a Bronx reunion because it seemed you would always run into old friends and even family there.
So as you can see in the pictures Victoria is growing like a tree, very tall and beautiful. She loves walking through the nature trails or picking up interesting rocks and seashells off the beach when the tide goes out. We've been coming to Orchard beach for as long as I can remember. Besides Central Park I think it's one of her favorite places to visit when she is with me.
One of the good things about this area is that when you are there you forget that you are in the Bronx or even in NYC. Its very peaceful and relaxing.
This visit has been amazing and mostly its because I can see Victoria not only growing in size but also maturing and having an understanding of things. It's very exciting and also its a little emotional for me. To see my little girl turning into a little lady.
As usual I feel so close to Victoria. Even with the time we've spent apart from one another we have a deep understanding that I can not explain.

Back in New York

I've been back from Florida for a couple of days now but I wanted to post these fotos especially since NYC is feeling rather cold in comparison to Florida. Also I'm starting to really feel like my time here is done. Its so fast. Last night I met up with my friends from BAM. It was nice to see them all. I will post those photos tomorrow. I look forward to seeing Victoria this weekend.

Florida and Fishing

Hey everyone, I've been a little busy on vacation. ;-) I've been fishing and hanging out with my family, just enjoying time with them. Here are just some fotos. You'll notice a photo of my dad eating a subway sandwich, and although its not a nice photo of him because he has food hanging out of his mouth, sometimes I like these fotos.

Florida, the Sunshine state, Day 2

So here is Big Matt, my cousin Jackie's son. Second day in Florida and I'm online sought of so its not as bad as I thought. Just kicking back and enjoying the Sunshine State. So a funny thing today, we went to Sports Authority, a sporting goods store, and we saw a fishing boat and bought it. Thats not the funny thing, it was when my dad and Elliot asked the sales guy if they could help them tie it to the roof of Elliot's car. They said they wouldnt reccomend it and that they couldn't help with that. They carried the boat to the car out side, supplied us with some rope and scissors and then watched from inside. I find it funny when people tie outrageous things on top of their cars. Any how we got home and the boat was in one piece and we went night fishing. Very nice time although we didnt catch any fish. See you tomorrow.

Part one of my NYC trip ends...

So its been a whirlwind of a weekend. I managed to survive and I am having a great time. Its funny that although I will be here 3 times as long as I was in December that it seems like the time is already gone.
To see Victoria is so amazing. We went to central park yesterday on our treasure hunt. We had buried some "treasures" in tiny tin boxes a few years ago. we tried to find them from memory but we were unsucessful. As Victoria has reasoned maybe, someone else just found them or maybe they moved underground as dirt shifts in to the nearby lake. Maybe with a metal detector we will be more sucessful?
Tomorrow I head out to Orlando, Florida, the Sunshine State. I'm looking forward to seeing my dad's newly built house and spending some time with my family there.
Back in the late 80's there was the begining of a big migration of New Yorker to Florida. Used to be the number one destination for retiring elderly up and down the east coast. In the 80's I think with New York City being a bit wild and a high crime city people were just tired and looking for a better place to live and raise their families.
So any way I will spend the time, fishing with my dad on the lake, eating, talking, playing dominoes, just kicking back and relaxing. Maybe a trip on the casino boat, and a trip to either Clear Water to visit an old friend of the family that used to live in the Bronx or maybe a drive up to North Carolina to visit my cousin who just bought a house with her husband.

Back in New York City, Co-op City, The Bronx and Back with Victoria

So I'm back in NYC for a visit and first thing was that my suitcase stayed behind in Amsterdam. My flight to Amsterdam from Vienna was delayed so before landing I was told I wouldnt make my connecting flight and would have to spend the night in Amsterdam. Although that was a nice idea and I wouldn't mind it, something about missing a flight bothers me. So when I exited the plane I calculated that I had about 12 minutes to navigate to the other side of the airport. The map that calculated estimated travel between certain areas calculated that I wouldn't make it. So I made a mad dash through the airport hoping that now one tackled me or shot me. I made it to my flight but when I spoke with one of the flight crew she told me that although I could run my suitcase couldnt and that probably I wouldnt get when I arrived in New York. So instead I recieved my suitcase Saturday morning. Michaela my good friend that is handling mail and other things for me while I'm in Vienna was there to pick me up and drop me off at home. So we caught up on the car ride home and talked about what was new in our lives. I got home and had Pizza with Kelly and Alex, my house sitters, and just watched some good ole American TV in english too! Friday morning was filled with phone calls and taking care of various errands and a trip to pathmark. It also was the day that Martin my friend from Vienna arrived too. He is working for Magnum Photos again on a 3 month stay this time. I saw my cousin Jr who is the dashing gentle man with the bald head and goatee. After finding out I wouldnt get Victoria Friday I decided to go out with Jr to Lenox Lounge on 77th. I took a gypsy cab from Bartow ave to the 6 train, then the 6 train to 125th Street just to take some photos of this train station, then the 4 to 86th and then I took a yellow cab to 77th and 1st. It was great to just be in the city and feel the vibe and the people. not to mention I was wearing just a button down shirt. no jacket and it was totally fine!! Its the warmest weather that I've been in since last fall. So I had nice time at Lenox Lounge, pictures to be posted tomorrow. Saturday I got up and then went to get Victoria. Victoria has been growing so much in the last 7 months, its amazing. So it looks like she grew a few more inches. We came home and cooked vegitable lasagna, played video games, watched a movie and just hung out and talked. It was an amazing day. I'm kinda exhausted but at the same time in just a few days here I'm having a great time. Since today is a cloudy day and rainy we have decided to go to Central Park to dig up treasures that we buried over 2 years ago. I hope the dirt is soft enough to dig. See you soon!!

Opa Max, Going out in Style

For over 40 years Opa Max ,( Maxs Adamaszek ), who is in his 90's has been running the Moden Panorama at Praterstern Nr. 29. Now he is sitting watching as his Daughter who in her 60's and her son or sons load up a truck that was outside the shop. I watched Max and he looke very calm and he spoke nicely to me and smiled. I just told him Good day and asked him how he was doing. I told him that I was sure many people had come by to take his foto and he said it was ok for me to look around and take any fotos I wanted. There was something relaxing in his gaze as he watched his family packing up the shop he's run for so long. I told him , Danke fur die fotos and Ich wunsche dir Alles Gute. He smile and said auf Wiedersehn. Then I went to play basketball with my friends. Knowing that I wouldnt be playing again for some weeks It was an intense few games. I'll talk about that more tomorrow. I took some fotos too.

Alter Laa

Today I went with my friend Martin to Alterlaa. Its in the 21st or 22nd district and its quite away from the city. Martin told me this area could be called a bad area but that is by Austrian standard. Nothing close to what could be called a bad area in NYC. So any way we walked through this area and I could feel almost like I was in New York City. We even came across an abandoned car that had been in a bad accident. There neighborhood was made up of an industrial section and then there were these apartment buildings that looked like Co-op City with a shopping center and all. Martin told me when they first built this housing area there were problems with crime and even gangs but that now they are becoming quite expensive housing. They have swimming pools on the roofs. One of my favorite things I saw today was this kid with the Wu-tang Klan hat on. They Kare one of my favorite Hip Hop groups and to see some young kid wearing a hat with the Wu-tang Klan emblem is so funny and amazing to me. Martin is going back to work for Magnum in New York City again, this time they're paying him. It was an interesting walk today. Notice the snow around. Its been snowing about everyday this week since the weekend. I love it!! haha.

Kiss

Today at breakfast at our usual place I saw young couple suddenly start to kiss. It was as if they were going to devour eachother. The great thing was that it was as if they were alone on another planet. It was such an amazing moment. Infact this foto doesnt do it justice. Its not even a good foto and I barely caught the end of the kiss. I was in such awe of the moment I couldnt get to my camera in time. But none the less at least this image reminds me of the powerful moments just before I took this foto. So I say to all of you live life as if no one is looking, dance in the streets, sing on the train, smile to strangers, make love with the lights on, love freely and enjoy life!! We'll only get this one.

Nici

I was walking down Mariahilferstrasse and I was approached by a kid working for Amnesty International. They are a group working for the end of female mutilation. Although this happens primarily in Africa and Asia they are bringing awareness worldwide. So I met this girl Nici that was overseeing the group of kids approaching the passerbys on the busy shopping street. Nici was nice enough to let me snap away some fotos of her. There will be a series of these fotos on my site that will start in April. The new site will just be a series of photos galleries of new fotos that i really like. Oh, and to talk about my previous posting it seems there are a few #$%^ers out there watching my photoblog so I will make a better effort to keep some fresh postings to keep y'all interested and entertained. Today I went night skiing at Semmering. Its the closest " moutain " to Vienna. About a year ago was the first time I skiied and it was at this place. But wow, what a difference a year makes. Today I fell about three times. Not because I was out of control or anything, just because I am trying big jumps now. I'm talking about a couple of meters high. Not only big jumps but at a fast speed. I love skiing!! So see you soon!!

$#%! NO

So, I guess I will have to accept that you #$%^ers wont be leaving comments. Ok, Fine. Be that way. Spring made a brief appearance yesterday and part of today but the later part of the afternoon became cloudy and Temperatures dropped also. That concludes the weather report for today. In other news... Klimt opened today in Vienna and the word is out... Stay away from this movie. Wow, I didnt know much about Klimt before the movie and now less now. The only bad thing is that after seeing this movie it will be along time before I can look at a Klimt painting and not cringe with the memory of a horrible film. Have a good weekend and thank you for tuning in. See you next time.

It's also Ash Wednesday the begining of Lent for the christians that are reading now. Let me know what you guys are giving up for Lent. Me and Monika are limiting ourselves to one drink a night. Hmmm, not really giving anything up. and we're not doing it for religious reasons either, but what the... oops don't think you're supposed to curse during Lent. Or pretty much do anything else. haha.
This is my photoblog when you guys leave me many comments. So do it for Lent, give up the silence for Jesus or just for me. See you soon!
