Yesterday Noah Efrain had more visitors but the little guy was sleeping most of the time. It was my and Noah's first chance to meet Olivier, Sophia and Carlos's 4 month old son. Sophia had nice treats for Noah Efrain from germany, a couple of german child books and some teas for mommy and a book for me, daddy and Noah to read. I made a spanish omlet, Monika prepared a cheese plate and we openned a bottle of white wine and we had a really nice afternoon. Evnetually Noah did wake up to feed and to be seen. It was a great visit.

The World we live in

what'sonyourmindson2.jpg

what'sonyourmindson3.jpg

I sit often holding our new son, Noah Efrain and wonder about the state of affairs in our world. Sometimes one can feel so insignificant in "the big picture" , in the "grand scheme of things." So much violence, injustice, unrest, suppression, oppression, and obsession. Wars rage on, hunger continues, homelessness ignored. Politicians, dictators, governments make deals, commit misdeeds and all unknown to us. Sometimes even known to us.

So I wonder in the big picture where do I fit. A cog in the big machine. Where will Noah Efrain find his place in this enormous world.

Sometimes its easy to get caught up in the everyday grind, routine or rut. Easy to put your head down and complain about our mundane lives. Oh how "hard" we have it or grumble about our commutes or what ever inconveniences we face on a daily basis. I'm guilty of this as well. Somehow looking at this little face reminds me how good life is. How I do enjoy this world with all its problems. How happy and fortunate I truly am.

Well we've had some busy days. On Thursday Noah-Efrain and Mommy Mon were able to come home. We had to promise to see Noah Efrain's doctor the next day because strictly breastfed babies lose weight the first few days. As long as it isn't more than 10% of the original bodyweight then its all good. So after getting home and settled in Friday we had our first Dr. appointment for Noah Efrain. We were worried that we would be told to give the baby formula because he had loss too much weight but alas here was a Dr. that was on our boat and saying the baby looked great and that there was nothing to worry about. Friday night Noah Efrain met Victoria for the first time and it was great! Its been very good and Noah-Efrain is doing excellent. Mommy Mon is doing amazing. Daddy is doing amazing. Victoria Big Sis is doing amazing. Here are just a few more photos trying to just keep posting. Have to say I am a bit tired these days but for a good reason. Tomorrow I will post Noah-Efrain's first visitors at home...

Thank you Dr. Lurie

drlurie.jpg

This was on Monday September 17th, 2007 when Monika was in recovery after the C-Section. Dr. Lurie is Monika's GYN doctor. When we first discussed getting pregnant and what hospital and doctor we would have etc I was a bit concerned with having a hospital in midtown Manhattan. After our first appointment with Dr. Lurie I started to like her. Every step of the way she was very helpful in answering any questions or concerns. When we had a scare that baby wasn't moving she quickly let us hear Noah's heart beat to put our worries at ease. When we scheduled a Version she was there to support us and even after it didn't work out she was there to support Monika and reassure that there wasn't any thing that Monika did or didn't do. On the day of our scheduled C-section after the triage room for pregnant women got slammed with mommies ready to give birth she at least put monika on an IV so that she would pass out from hunger.(Monika wasn' allowed to eat from 3AM that morning. Any how Dr. Lurie was a great help, and did a great job. Thanks!!

In there are a picture of me with Noah Efrain and a picture of Monika. Hopefully Monika and Noah Efrain will come home tomorrow. Today Monika got the hang of changing Noah Efrain's diapers and they both made big steps with Breastfeeding eventhough the nurses are not very supportive or even encouraging.

Noah Efrain Jouvert : day 2

Noah-Efrain-Jouvert.jpg

What a difference a day makes. Noah Efrain and Monika are making leaps with breastfeeding and recovery. Monika was walking around already. Noah Efrain's digestion is underway with his first poop which I missed but he gave me three more during the day. That was when I knew for sure thats my boy!! He even was reading a tiny book he got from one of the nurses. The night before my mom and aunt made it to be the first visitors and today brought a few more. We had to stand our ground with the nurses in telling them that no we didnt want any formula and that Noah Efrain must have been getting enough food to have four bowel movements in his first day here. Then because baby was a little cold ( we unswaddle him for breastfeeding so that his is more alert ) they wanted to check his blood sugar unhappy that we didnt want to take formula. The levels were perfect. Any how we made up a sign for the second night that made clear that no formula or pacifiers were needed and that when Noah was awake to be brought back to Monika. All in all it was a great day. Monika is a great mom. Today's visitors were Kari, my sister, Lee my mom, and Darren, our friend. So here are just a few pictures of Noah. I will put up a few more pictures of visitors, daddy, mommy and of course Noah Efrain tomorrow.

Baby Jouvert

Its funny, the word miracle. I can say I've seen one miracle in my life so far. Its the most amazing thing. Its just like you hear. Just like in the movies. Just like in books. Today I know I will see another one. I will experience it with Monika. Up until today its been sought of unreal. Well not unreal but its been a bit detatched, far way. Today I awake with anticipation, anxiety, and purpose. Miracles can do that to you. Everything becomes clear and simple in their presence. Baby Jouvert will come into our world from a perfect world. Pure and perfect.

So rather than delay it longer I decided to chop my soundslide into three parts one for each month of summer that will accomplish two things. 1. give me more time to select photos (something I have a big problem doing) 2. I can edit some more photos and work on the soundslides alittle more as well. So here I will post a few of the pictures and then you can click on the link below to see the full soundslide.

Back to School and Back to Work...

summertime1.jpg

Labor Day, according to Victoria, my 12 year old daughter, has informed me that yesterday marked the end of summer and by the way she made it sound like the end of life. Seems the highways and roadways in general will be more congested, the subways and buses more crowded, beaches, parks and greenways less crowded. One of my memories of going back to school was when a teacher would have you write in class usually on the first day or at least that first week something titled What I did this Summer. So in that tradition I will be posting a few pictures from this summer that will be in a new slideshow on my website.
